I am Reader in Photography at Canterbury Christ Church University, and in this rôle both direct SEAS Photography and co-direct the Centre for Research on Communities and Cultures.

I began my career wholly as a theorist but thankfully came to my senses and leapt with joyful abandonment into practice-based research which is centered around photography, curating and writing.

Visual catalyst for my work resides in my environment. I live and work on the Isle of Thanet. My home is built on the cliffs - I am a coastliner - and the sea and the shoreline are a vital part of my daily experience. Critical to my practice is working close to home and being part of Thanet's diverse and complex coastal community.

I struggle not to be a film snob...
