My chapter - Beyond the View: Reframing the Early Commercial Photograph has recently been published in Ingleby and Kerr's, Coastal Cultures of the Long Nineteenth Century, (EUP, 2018).
The collection examines the cultural importance of the coastline in the nineteenth-century British imagination and my own chapter reconsiders the very early trading photographers working at the water's edge. Reflecting on the innovation of their practice and how more broadly commercial photography rapidly provided a democratised means of portraiture.
